Accessibility

At Gidleigh Park we treat all of our guests as individuals; we have a range of facilities catering for people of all abilities. We take equality legislation seriously and endeavour to provide all of our guests with the best possible experience.

Enquiries and reservations

Gidleigh Park has two rooms on the ground floor, one of which is a less able bodied access room (Kestor room). For carers and guests with a disability, this room will always be offered at our lowest available public rate at the time of booking. The other ground floor room is accessible via a lockable door from both sides. This enables it to be used by family, friends or a carer if required.

We always encourage telephone enquiries in order to discuss your requirements pre-arrival. Please contact us on the number below where one of our team will be happy to assist you in ensuring your stay will be both an enjoyable and memorable one.

Public areas

Reception

The reception at Gidleigh Park is located on the ground floor and has clear level access. Throughout the whole of the ground floor the surfaces are level wooden flooring and short pile rugs and carpets. Corridors throughout the ground floor are wide with the narrowest doorways being 1230mm.

Reception is well lit with table lamps, seating and natural light. Staff greet guests and visitors together with dealing with enquiries in the open hallway where the reception office is adjacent.

Drawing Room and Bar

The drawing room in the hotel is located on the ground floor and has a short pile carpet. Our corridors are wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair and we have staff trained in disability awareness. Assistance dogs are more than welcome within the lounge and restaurant.

The bar is also located on the ground floor with a short pile carpet. It leads down one step to a loggia and conservatory which would be awkward for a wheelchair to manoeuvre. The bar itself is wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair.

Both the Drawing Room and Bar feature a mixture of seating arrangements with low level coffee tables (455mm in the bar, 480 – 500mm in the Drawing Room) and seating ranging from soft deep cushioned to straight back chairs and sofas.

Public Toilets

The hotel has a disabled toilet on the ground floor which has a pull alarm cord linked to reception in case of emergency. The surfaces of the floor are wood and there are wall mounted rails to assist the less abled together with a low level sink.

Gardens

Our gardens can be accessed via the front and rear of the hotel. The grounds are extensive with different areas through which a river runs. There are a series of gravel, grass and stone pathways that go around the gardens with steps leading to different levels, so access is not available to all as a result. Our Front lawn, terrace and vegetable garden however are accessible via different paths. In addition a path leads beside the river on both sides and there are a couple of bridges available to cross.

Restaurant

Our restaurants are located on the ground floor. Two restaurants, Teign and Meldon, have a short pile carpet and the remaining one, Nattadon, has a wooden floor.

Full waiter service is provided at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Please let us know in advance if you have any special dietary requirements.

The menu is printed and can be verbally presented or provided in large print if required.

There is ample moveable seating and there are chairs without arms. The restaurant area is well-lit, with lots of natural daylight during daytime hours.

Bedrooms

Kestor is situated on the ground floor. The room is well lit with ceiling spot lights, table lamps and natural light from the windows and doors that face on to the terrace. The doorways are 900mm wide.

The bathroom comprises of a shower with a moveable seat and grab rails, a toilet seat (430mm high) and two washbasins (710mm high & 865 high). The bathroom is also fitted with two emergency pull cords, one within the shower and the other beside the toilet. The bathroom is lit by ceiling spotlights.

Evacuation

In order to safely evacuate, we will need to conduct a personal emergency evacuation plan on arrival to understand your specific requirements. Should evacuation be necessary, our alarm will sound continuously.

We have tried to be as accurate as possible and have included as much details as we can in our Accessibility Statement, however we do welcome your feedback in order to evolve the information and services we provide.
