Rail
Gidleigh Park is a 30-40 minute drive from Exeter St David’s train station. You will require a taxi from the train station, which we recommend you organise in advance. Please contact our Reception team who will be happy to advise.
Air
Exeter International Airport is just 30 miles from the hotel. If you require transport from the airport please contact our Reception team who will be happy to help. Otherwise, we would recommend hiring a car (bearing in mind that the roads near the hotel are rather narrow!).
Car
If you are travelling by car, the hotel has a private car park on-site which is complimentary to our guests.
We recommend that our guests do not rely on satellite navigation to find Gidleigh Park, and follow signs to Chagford not to the village of Gidleigh.
Although your room is available to check-in from 3pm, and check-out is at 11am on the day of departure, guests are welcome to arrive earlier or stay after they’ve checked out to enjoy the hotel lounge or explore Gidleigh Park’s gardens.
Dogs are welcome to enjoy our beautiful grounds and local walks, though they cannot access public areas or the main house. We ask that dogs are kept on a lead in public spaces, and waste is disposed of in the provided bins. If left unattended in your room (briefly), please inform reception. Rooms for guests with dogs must be arranged in advance, with a £20 per dog, per night fee including a bed and water bowl. Guide and assistance dogs are welcome throughout the hotel.
Yes, we have interconnecting master rooms on the ground floor.

Set on the bubbling upper reaches of the River Teign, Gidleigh Park sits on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, wrapped in 107 acres of gardens and woodland. A Tudor-style country house with Michelin-starred dining at its heart, it’s a place to disconnect from the daily and settle into nature’s calm.
Gidleigh’s story stretches back centuries, from the Prouz family (from the time of William the Conqueror) to the estate’s major rebuild in 1925, when Charles Harold Campbell McIlwraith commissioned architect Stanley Philpot to reimagine the house. It became a hotel in 1955, then was lovingly restored and elevated further under Andrew and Christina Brownsword’s ownership, including a full refurbishment in 2005.
